Magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosis and preoperative planning in agenesis of the distal vagina.
Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging is a powerful new tool in the radiological armamentarium. Its advantages over computed tomography include better tissue differentiation, high resolution multiplanar imaging, and absence of ionizing radiation. Its advantage over ultrasound is complete depiction of anatomical detail of areas not ordinarily penetrated by the ultrasound beam, including bone, air, and bowel. We found it very useful in the evaluation of and preoperative planning for a 13-year-old girl with congenital agenesis of the distal vagina.
