The Role of Multiple Preoperative Regional Blocks in Combined Cosmetic Surgery: Enhancing Patient Satisfaction.
Abstract
This prospective comparative study included patients who underwent multiple cosmetic procedures in a single surgical session. The study aimed to assess patient satisfaction regarding pain management and the extent of analgesic use. It included patients who underwent at least two procedures: abdominoplasty, breast surgery, liposuction of the abdomen, liposuction of the back, and buttock lipofilling. The patients were divided into two groups: the case group, which received more than one type of block: erector spinae plane, pectoral nerve, or transversus abdominis plane block, and the control group, which did not receive blocks. Most demographic characteristics and morbidities did not differ significantly between the two groups. The case group demonstrated reduced painkiller consumption, no use of opioid medication, fewer requests for as-needed analgesics, and a longer time to the first request for additional pain relief. The group that received preoperative nerve blocks had a significantly higher proportion of very satisfied and somewhat satisfied patients (45% and 31%, respectively) than those in the control group (12% and 32%, respectively). Preoperative ultrasound-guided blocks in combined cosmetic surgeries performed in a single session significantly reduce postoperative pain and opioid consumption while increasing patient satisfaction.Level of Evidence III This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article.
