Facelift: Personal Approach to the Sideburn Region in Men.
Abstract
[BACKGROUND] Facelift surgery is becoming increasingly common in men. Certain male- specific characteristics necessitate a tailored approach to achieve a natural, stigma-free outcome. The sideburn area in men requires special attention to avoid visible scars and to maintain its position, preventing an unaesthetic and feminized appearance.
[METHODS] The author describes his personal approach to managing the sideburns in men undergoing facelift surgery and provides a literature review of techniques used in this region to avoid postoperative stigmas.
[RESULTS] The technique used by the author allows for the maintenance of both the width and position of the male sideburns, with scars camouflaged within the hair and beard regions.
[CONCLUSIONS] Temporal flap rotation and excess skin resection in the male sideburn area have proven effective in maintaining a natural, stigma-free result.
