Neuroguided Surgery: A Safe Technique to Prevent Nerve Injuries in Facelift Surgery.
Abstract
Facelift surgery (rhytidectomy) is one of the most performed aesthetic procedures. However, with the growing number of procedures, the incidence of complications, particularly nerve injuries, has also increased. Facial nerve injury is a very feared complication, as it can result in facial paralysis, leading to aesthetic and functional impairments. To address this, neuronavigation has emerged as an effective and viable solution. By precisely locating the facial nerve branches, neuronavigation ensures the safe execution of facial surgery with millimetric accuracy, even in altered anatomical conditions. This article introduced the concept of neuroguided facial surgery-a technique that can be integrated with facelift procedures to prevent iatrogenic injuries to the facial nerve branches. This study aimed to describe the neuroguided approach, highlighting its effectiveness in reducing nerve injury risk compared with traditional techniques.
