Telescopic Genioplasty: A novel technique for chin feminization in facial feminization surgery.
Abstract
Chin modification plays a critical role in Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) due to its impact on gender perception. Current techniques, including high-speed burring and osteotomies, may leave some patients with an undesired round chin appearance. This study introduces the combination of telescopic genioplasty and chin feminization, a novel, minimally invasive approach designed to feminize the chin by reducing its dimensions, adjusting its sagittal position, and creating a more tapered appearance. This study involved 22 transgender women who underwent either isolated telescopic genioplasty or a combination of chin feminization and telescopic genioplasty from January to December 2023. Virtual surgical planning, 3D-printed cutting guides, and customized titanium miniplates were used. Outcomes were assessed based on surgical time, chin advancement, and complication rates. Telescopic genioplasty offers a safe, effective, and minimally invasive technique for chin feminization, with favorable aesthetic outcomes and low complication rates.
