A Tropical Tale of Thumb Reconstruction With an Osteocutaneous Superficial Circumflex Iliac Artery Perforator Flap.
Abstract
Traumatic thumb amputations can result in significant functional disability. In some circumstances, replantation may not always be possible. We present a case of osteocutaneous superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator free flap reconstruction of a thumb in a 77-year-old woman who had a traumatic degloving injury through the interphalangeal joint. Given its versatility, we have observed the osteocutaneous superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator flap to provide a robust reconstructive option which should be considered in certain cases of thumb reconstruction.
