Celiac plexus block with botulinum toxin in severe chronic pancreatitis-A case report.
Abstract
[WHAT IS KNOWN AND OBJECTIVE] The botulinum toxin (BoNT) has been widely used for various conditions associated with pain.
[CASE DESCRIPTION] Here, we report a case where celiac plexus block (CPB) with BoNT relieved intractable chronic pancreatic pain without complications. CPB was performed at the L1 level under fluoroscopic guidance, and 50 IU BoNT was injected on each side. After 15 weeks, pain was decreased to 0/10 on a visual analogue scale, without opioids or tramadol.
[WHAT IS NEW AND CONCLUSION] Our case demonstrates the efficacy of CPB with BoNT in intractable pain due to severe chronic pancreatitis.
